Practical Notebook recommendation
Why a production milestone can fit Path C.
A well-matched credential can define the next technical boundary. Your project must still prove that you can operate, observe, recover, and explain a system.
It follows operating evidence.
Path C begins with a reproducible service, a container boundary, useful logs, health behavior, and a recovery procedure.
It names a real responsibility.
Linux administration, application delivery, and cluster operations are different jobs. The milestone should match the work you intend to own.
It tests an appropriate scope.
A foundational exam and a performance-based operations exam answer different questions. Choose the smallest scope that reduces a real uncertainty.
It complements the lifecycle record.
The credential can validate a defined technology while Project 3 shows deployment decisions, observability, failure handling, and limitations.
Path C decision gate
Operate before you orchestrate.
A production or cloud-native credential is worth reviewing only when all four statements below are true.
- You can build, run, inspect, and recover a small Linux-based service.
- You can explain configuration, health, logs, failure detection, and rollback.
- The target technology appears in your target work or solves a project constraint.
- You can name the application, system, cluster, or platform responsibility you want to own.
Current provider routes
Match one milestone to the responsibility you already chose.
These routes are alternatives, not a ladder. KCNA is conceptual. LFCS, CKAD, and CKA are performance-based and require hands-on command-line work.
Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate (KCNA)
For readers who need a bounded vocabulary milestone before taking responsibility for Kubernetes applications or clusters.
- Evidence first
- You can run and inspect a containerized service, and you can explain why orchestration is not yet required.
- Current scope
- Foundational Kubernetes and cloud-native concepts across the wider ecosystem.
- Format
- 90-minute, online, multiple-choice exam
- Current pricing
- US$250 exam only
Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS)
For readers whose target work depends on administering Linux systems, services, networking, storage, users, and operational recovery.
- Evidence first
- You can operate a Linux-based service from the command line and diagnose failures from process state, logs, configuration, and network behavior.
- Current scope
- Distribution-independent Linux system administration through performance-based tasks.
- Format
- Two-hour, online, performance-based exam
- Current pricing
- US$445 exam only
Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
For developers who build, configure, deploy, expose, and troubleshoot applications on Kubernetes without claiming cluster administration responsibility.
- Evidence first
- You can already containerize an application and Kubernetes solves a deployment or application-lifecycle constraint you can name.
- Current scope
- Designing, building, configuring, and deploying cloud-native applications for Kubernetes.
- Format
- Two-hour, online, performance-based exam
- Current pricing
- US$445 exam only
Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
For readers responsible for cluster installation, configuration, networking, workloads, troubleshooting, and operational reliability.
- Evidence first
- You can explain cluster behavior, detect failed workloads, recover services, and distinguish application failures from infrastructure failures.
- Current scope
- Kubernetes administration through hands-on command-line tasks in a live exam environment.
- Format
- Two-hour, online, performance-based exam
- Current pricing
- US$445 exam only
30-second direction check
Is it time to review a production milestone?
This check applies the Path C decision sequence from the book. It does not test exam eligibility, and nothing is submitted.
Answer all three questions to see the next credible step. Nothing is submitted.
Project 3 evidence first
What should exist before you schedule.
Reproducible service
Keep a documented build, pinned dependencies, configuration contract, container image, and repeatable start procedure.
Operational signals
Separate liveness, readiness, application quality, resource behavior, and failure classes through useful logs and checks.
Failure and recovery
Trigger a bounded failure, detect it, restore service, and record the rollback target and recovery steps.
Lifecycle record
Explain model or prompt versioning, data and evaluation changes, security boundaries, release decisions, and known limitations.
A distinct platform route
Choose platform engineering only when the platform is the product.
Platform work centers on reusable infrastructure, self-service APIs, delivery workflows, policy, observability, and developer experience. It is broader than deploying one application.
Certified Cloud Native Platform Engineering Associate (CNPA)
A foundational, multiple-choice route for readers moving toward platform automation, APIs, observability, security, and developer experience.

An advanced, performance-based route for experienced practitioners who design and operate production-grade internal platforms.

Need guided Linux or Kubernetes labs first?
KodeKloud offers guided labs across Linux, containers, Kubernetes, and related operational skills. Use it to close a specific practice gap before reviewing a credential.
